Baylor College of Medicine
Although she’s a jokester, her job is no laughing matter. Peggy Goodell works in one of the hottest areas of science: stem cell biology.
Her research mostly involves adult blood stem cells, which produce all our blood cells and constantly replenish sick or dying ones. Goodell is trying to coax the blood stem cells to make more of themselves in a lab dish, potentially leading to safer and more effective doses for treating leukemia and other blood cancers.
