Read about Serrine Lau, Ph.D., in the February 2004 issue.
Toxicologist
University of Arizona
Tucson, AZ
Serrine Lau thrives on solving the medical mysteries of health and disease.
Like a detective, she investigates molecular "crime scenes," organs within the body that are prone to damage by poisonous chemical. She studies interactions between those chemicals and our genes. Finding the genes that increase susceptibility to toxins may help scientists estimate the risk of chemical exposure in people.
