Not every researcher gets to save lives and then adopt them. But emergency veterinarian Cynthia Otto isn’t your average scientist.
She studies a life-threatening condition called sepsis, in which the immune system goes berserk after severe injury or infection. By investigating the molecular basis for this poorly understood condition, Otto hopes to uncover better treatments for both animals and people. Outside the lab, you’ll find her competing in dog races with her former patient and furry companion, Dolce.
