Summer Research Many participants in NIGMS' minority programs spent this past summer performing research away from their home institutions:

  • City University of New York, Hunter College: Nine MARC and RISE program participants performed research at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons as part of the Columbia University/Hunter College Undergraduate Summer Research Program. A highlight of the 8-week summer program included a seminar by former New York Mayor David Dinkins, who invited two of the students and those affiliated with the summer program to join him on his radio talk show "Dialog with Dinkins" last June.

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: Eight IRACDA program participants spent the summer at institutions across North Carolina performing research. The students and their summer institutions are: Charity Battle, North Carolina Central University, Durham; Timica Campbell, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Leisha Collins, Cherita Stanford, and Rebecca Williams, Fayetteville Technical Community College; Titania Martin and Yonesha Phair, Fayetteville State University; Danielle Newsome, Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte; and Jessica Targ, University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
