The NIGMS Division of Minority Opportunities in Research (MORE) administers research and research training programs aimed at increasing the number of minority biomedical and behavioral scientists. NIGMS is one of the National Institutes of Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. By supporting basic biomedical research and training nationwide, NIGMS lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

MORE Program Administrator Changes

There have been recent changes to some of the grant portfolio assignments within the MORE Division. Hamlet Joins MORE Division

Michelle R.J. Hamlet joined the MORE Division last October as a program administrator for the Bridges to the Future programs. Before joining NIGMS, she served as a training program coordinator in the National Human Genome Research Institute Intramural Training Office. Hamlet earned a B.S. in language arts/French from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

MORE Grantees Honored for Mentoring

Two MORE principal investigators and one MORE institutional program are among the most recent recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. They are: Marigold L. Linton, University of Kansas; Jo Handelsman, Yale University; and the Bridges to the Baccalaureate program at the State University of New York, Purchase College (Joseph A. Reminder: Upcoming Grant Writing Workshop for MARC and RISE Programs

An NIGMS-sponsored grant writing workshop focused on the MARC and RISE programs will be held on the University of Kentucky campus March 14-16, 2011. Interested principal investigators and institutional officials are encouraged to attend. Transportation, housing expenses and a per diem will be provided. SCORE Program Receipt/Expiration Date Extension

NIGMS is extending the SCORE Program receipt and expiration date to September 8, 2012. For additional information, see NIH Guide notices NOT-GM-11-101 (SC1), NOT-GM-11-102 (SC2) and NOT-GM-11-103 (SC3).

Reminder: Use xTrain to Track Bridges, PREP and IRACDA Student Appointments and Departures

Institutions with Bridges, PREP and IRACDA awards are now required to submit training appointment and termination documentation electronically through the xTrain system. For more information, see NIH Guide notice NOT-GM-11-104.
