Modeling How Molecules Move Inside Cells

In this simulation, molecules (spheres) move inside bacterial cells. Without the hydrodynamic interactions, the diffusion rate of a test protein (green spheres) is much faster than in real cells. With hydrodynamic interactions incorporated, the diffusion speed is similar to what is observed experimentally. Credit: Tadashi Ando and Jeffrey Skolnick.
